Neil Campbell (British Army officer)
General Sir Neil Campbell (1776-1827) was a British Army officer during the Napoleonic Wars.
==Biography==
Campbell joined the British Army as an ensign in 1797. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1799 and major in 1805. Stationed in the West Indies from 1798 until 1800 he was then transferred to the home garrisons until 1806 when he was again posted to in the West Indies. While there he was promoted to lieutenant-colonel in 1808.
Campbell returned to Britain in 1810 and in 1811 was seconded as a colonel in the Portuguese infantry, a post he held until 1813. In that year he was sent as a British military attaché to accompany the Russian Army. He was with the Russians when they invaded France in 1814 and escorted Napoleon to Elba. In 1815 he served in the Waterloo Campaign. He was promoted to Major General in 1825 and served as governor of Sierra Leone in 1826.
